Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the basic price?
The price includes a painted extruded aluminum frame, your
choice of white or green STANDARD, 8mm clear twinwall polycarbonate
covering, all necessary hardware (excluding ground anchors),
an extra wide single hinged door, and roof vents.
Is this a greenhouse kit?
Yes, the house is all pre-cut, pre-drilled and ready to
assemble. Assembly time varies relative to a customer’s
ability. The typical time other customers have experienced
when they erect a Hideaway is 8-10 hours. Complete assembly
instructions are included when the greenhouse is shipped
to the customer. Assembly instructions include easy to follow
written instructions as well as diagrams to assist you.
Covering
Why do you use 8mm Polycarbonate and how will
it hold up to weathering?
8mm twinwall polycarbonate is an excellent choice as a greenhouse
covering. It offers all the properties you desire in a covering,
excellent light transmission, exceptional strength and durability
as well an outstanding insulating properties.
The 8mm polycarbonate has a light transmission
of 82% that offers an even diffused light for optimal plant
growth. It carries a 10-year manufacturers warranty and
comes standard with an Anti-Condensate coating. The surface
of the polycarbonate is protected from the degradation effects
of U.V. radiation by a proprietary co-extrusion process.
Beneficial Infra-Red light passes through promoting an ideal
growth environment.
The R factor for 8mm twinwall polycarbonate
is 1.57. We chose 8mm twinwall polycarbonate because we
believe that the 8mm more than adequately provides a good
growing climate for the Hideaway.. The 10mm polycarbonate
provides minimal difference in the insulating factor and
energy savings are minuscule.
Strength and Durability
Will the Hideaway stand up to snow and wind?
The Hideaway is a high quality greenhouse design based on
decades of
knowledge and experience in the greenhouse business. With
its high strength aluminum framing and the twinwall polycarbonate
glazing, this greenhouse is very durable and able to withstand
harsh weather conditions.
The aluminum painted frame that is STANDARD
with our structure that is U.V. resistant, rather than the
plastic frames offered by some other manufacturers. Aluminum
will stand the test of time and not deteriorate due to weather
and aging.
Foundation
Does the Hideaway need a foundation?
No, it does not require a concrete foundation. The customer
provides a 2” x 4” wooden frame that the greenhouse
sits on. That wooden frame is then anchored to the ground
with the ground anchors.
Can this greenhouse be moved?
Yes, it can be taken apart and moved. This house is considered
portable.
Ventilation
What about ventilation?
The Hideaway comes STANDARD with 2 roof vents that can be
opened manually. You also have the option of purchasing
a solar powered vent arm to automatically open the vents
when the temperature in the greenhouse reaches a certain
point. The solar powered vent arm is our most popular option.
Whether you manually open your vents or purchase the solar
powered arm, the extra large roof vents let the hot air
escape from the roof area.
What about air movement in the
greenhouse?
Some of our customers want to increase air movement in the
greenhouse beyond that afforded by natural ventilation.
We also offer an automatic fan and shutter system for additional
cooling. Details of the exhaust fan and shutter system can
be found in the accessory page.
Shading
If natural shading is not available in your yard, we offer
a roof shade cloth to cover the Hideaway. The exterior roof
shade cloth greatly reduces the heat build up in your greenhouse
and helps to minimize tip burn on your plants.
Helpful Hints
Do you have any other helpful tips for finding
the right location in my yard?
Sun exposure will be greatest beginning in the south and
decreasing in the following order: western, eastern and
northern. Try to locate your greenhouse near some deciduous
trees that might offer some shade in the spring, summer
and fall.
What type of flooring should be
used in my greenhouse?
The Hideaway can be placed on a concrete pad, brick patio
(for added heat conservation), pea gravel, garden stones,
lawn or a wood deck. If using gravel inside the greenhouse,
smaller stones tend to be easier to balance benches and
pots. If a wood deck is chosen, be prepared to place a bug
screen or insulate the flooring beforehand.
